Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia bugs identified; package updates to follow

MintBox 3 Release

It might be the Holiday Season, but the Linux Mint Team is still hard at work. The team recently released its December 2019 newsletter, fresh on the heels of the recent release of Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia.

Bug Fixes

The newsletter outlined some bugs they’ve identified in Linux Mint 19.3, along with their fixes:

  • In the most recently released, they removed keyboard shortcuts in Cinnamons grouped window.  However, because of popular demand, that feature is coming back.
  • The team fixed the 1px border bug affecting full-screen windows in Cinnamon, and included these in package updates, as will the fix for Cinnamon’s screensaver lag.
  • The root password notice in the new version of the Systems Reports tools caused a lot of confusion with Linux Mint users.  This was, in fact, the primary complaint with the latest release.  The team is reviewing this and currently working on a solution.
  • The packaging issue with grup2-theme-mint and grub2-them-mint-2k that would not allow the packages to remove cleanly has been fixed.
  • The team is aware of an issue with the clock format in Cinnamon and is at work on a fix.  Impacted users should comment on the Linux Mint Cinnamon Issues Github.
  • Multiple issues with the XappStatusIcon applet and the system tray have been reported.  The development team is looking into it and asks that affected users say it at Linux Mint Cinnamon Issues Github along with the desktop you’re using, your panel layout, and a list of installed packages (dpkg -l).

MintBox3

The newsletter mentioned the MintBox3.  They disclosed that several units were sent to some Mint developers, and they hope to get the unit out to even more soon.

The Mint developers liked the form factor look, build quality, and passive cooling afforded by the MintBox3.  The gap in performance (between that and an Airtop1) took the team back somewhat.

The team did not shy away from the fact that the MintBox3 is a luxury computer (priced between $1399 and $2499).

Despite the price, it’s evident that the team loves the MintBox3.  Said one developer, “This is the fastest computer I’ve put my hands-on, it’s the best-built machine I’ve ever played with, and it runs Linux Mint.”

The team promised a full review of the MintBox3 sometime next month.

Conclusion

The mint team has made some important advancements this month. Along with with the bug fixes mentioned above and the testing of the MintBox3 that the team is currently working on, we learned that work on Linux Mint 20 and LMDE 4 is next on the team’s plate.

If you upgrade 19.2 > 19.3 then install WINE… It completely borks your system and kills Cinnamon

Wow, David,

That’s not good. This is the first that I’m hearing of it, and I’m unable to find any information on that particular issue. How are you installing WINE, for the CLI or GUI?

Thanks,

Travis
